STUDY OF PEST CHARACTERISTICS AND MONITORING OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF LEAF BEETLES (CHRYSOMELIDAE) IN AGROCENOSES

Leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae) constitute one of the largest and most diverse families of phytophagous insects, many of which are serious agricultural pests. Their feeding activity results in defoliation, skeletonization, and pod damage, consequently leading to significant yield losses in various crops. Moreover, some species act as vectors of plant pathogens, which increases their economic importance. This article examines the biological and ecological characteristics of pest species within Chrysomelidae and highlights the importance of systematic monitoring for their distribution in agrocenoses. Active sampling methods such as visual counts and sweep netting, as well as passive techniques including yellow pan and pheromone traps, are discussed in detail. It is emphasized that integrated monitoring, combined with economic thresholds, is essential for effective pest management. Furthermore, the article outlines the role of integrated pest management (IPM) strategies and stresses the necessity of adapting monitoring systems to changing environmental conditions, particularly under the influence of climate change.
