A Pilot Clinical Observation on the Effects of Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia) Supplementation for Skin Health and Detoxification

Background: Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia) is a traditional Ayurvedic herb recognized for its blood-purifying, detoxifying, and dermatological benefits. While extensively used in Ayurveda, modern clinical validation is limited. Objective: This pilot observational study explored the effects of Manjistha supplementation on skin health and tolerability among adult participants. Methods: A cohort of 100 adults received 1,500 mg/day of whole-root powder Manjistha caplets (GeVica Biosciences) for 8 weeks. Participants self-reported acne severity, skin clarity, and tolerability. Results: At 8 weeks, 72% reported improved skin clarity, 63% reported reduced acne severity, and 85% tolerated supplementation well. Mild gastrointestinal discomfort occurred in 4% of participants. Conclusion: This pilot observation suggests that Manjistha supplementation at 1,500 mg/day may support skin health and detoxification in healthy adults. Larger, controlled clinical trials are recommended. Keywords: Manjistha, Rubia cordifolia, Ayurveda, Herbal Medicine, Skin Health, Detoxification, GeVica Biosciences
