Natural Zeolites for Removal of Calcium and Magnesium Ions from Hard Water

This study investigates natural zeolites from Menena Define and Malo Telesa for removing calcium and magnesium from tap water, comparing their performance to a synthetic resin. Characterization showed improved crystallinity and purity after washing. MD zeolite removed 68.7% of calcium under alkaline conditions, while ReSe removed 93.5% of magnesium under acidic conditions. Results highlight the role of pH and material properties in ion removal and support MD zeolite as a cost-effective option for water softening.
