Student Journal Savinja Celebrating Its 110th Anniversary in the Year of General Rudolf Maister

Rudolf Maister is best known to Slovenians for holding on to a large part of the country's borders and countries were being created. But Maister was not only a soldier and a general – he was also an important humanist at the start of the century. This paper covers a short period of Maister's life in Celje (from 1 November 1913 to 15 April 1914). During this period, the Austro-Hungarian captain and Slovenian poet passionately led the students of the Celje Grammar School on their way into the world of literature. He was the editor of their new journal, one that published student literary and scientific exercises. It became clear during this work that he had a pedagogical talent. The first issue of the journal appeared at the end of January 1914.
