A specimen of Coreoperca kawamebari collected from Nagasaki Prefecture, an extinct region, discovered in the Shigeho Tanaka collection
In Nagasaki Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan, records of Coreoperca kawamebari exist only in literature, and its distribution within the prefecture remains disputed. We discovered a specimen collected in 1919 from the Hasami River in Nagasaki Prefecture, identified as C. kawamebari based on its morphology, in the Shigeho Tanaka collection at the University Museum, the University of Tokyo. This specimen is the only extant record of C. kawamebari in Nagasaki Prefecture. The specimen register also includes information indicating its presence in the Komori River, suggesting that this species may have once inhabited the Komori River.
