Two additional records of Dysommina orientalis (Synaphobranchidae) from the Kishu-nada Sea and Suruga Bay, Japan
Two specimens (478.9 and 522.5 mm total length) of Dysommina orientalis Tighe, Ho and Hatooka, 2018 (Synaphobranchidae) were collected from the Kishu-nada Sea off Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture, and Suruga Bay off Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. These specimens represent the second and third records of the species from Japan, and the Kishu-nada specimen is the first record from Wakayama Prefecture. While most characteristics of the present specimens agree well with those of D. orientalis shown in previous studies, 39 dorsal-fin rays anterior to the anal-fin origin in one of two is lower than the range of variation previously known (44–60).
