The paper aims to investigate the relationship between renewable energy and sustainable development. Renewable energy presents two features – inexhaustibility and ubiquity – that are essential for all three dimensions of sustainable development. Enabling the conservation of resources for future generations, inexhaustibility captures the environmental dimension. Ubiquity, on the other hand, enables the economic and social dimensions to be enhanced, promoting widespread production and combating energy poverty.
