Design and Implementation of MPPT PV with Interleaved Boost Converter Based on Perturb and Observe Algorithm
The increasing use of renewable energy has a great influence on the rapid development of the use of DC-DC Converter technology. This is because the use of renewable energy requires technology in the form of Maximum Power Point Tracking which is equipped with a DC-DC Converter. In general, MPPT uses conventional boost converters that have disadvantages such as high current ripples and low efficiency. The solution to this problem is to use an interleaved topology that is able to suppress the value of ripples. This study aims to compare the performance of Interleaved Boost Converter with Conventional Boost Converter using MPPT Perturb and Observe algorithms. When implemented with a load of 20-100% of its capacity, the average efficiency of the Interleaved Boost Converter is 88%. Meanwhile, conventional Boost Converters are only able to produce an average efficiency of 85.27%. MPPT simulation on load variation using Interleaved Boost Converter produces an average power of 119.5 W and an average ripple of 0.113 % and MPPT using a Conventional Boost Converter produces an average power of 119.5 W and an average ripple of 0.736%. In its implementation, MPPT with Interleaved Boost Converter produces an average power of 100.36 W and an average ripple of 6.08 %, while MPPT with a Conventional Boost Converter produces an average power of 90.3 W and an average ripple of 9.06%. From the simulation and implementation results, it is shown that MPPT with Interleaved Boost Converter produces a larger power value and small ripples than the Conventional Boost Converter.
