"Extinguished friendship always distils gall" Alexandru Marghiloman in Queen Maria's war diary
Queen Maria was a great personality in the native society since arriving in Romania, and she attached herself to people, places, and customs and did her best to show this publicly. A passionate multilateral spirit, Queen Maria laid her thoughts, feelings, desires and grievances on paper. Her writing alternates from warm feelings for the ones she liked to extremely harsh criticism of the disagreeable ones. Alexandru Marghiloman was not the queen's favorite, and since his appointment as prime minister, she painted him in the darkest colors. Sometimes the paper bore more than the queen could speak, and her antipathy towards Marghiloman persisted even after the end of the Greater War. It should be noted that some facts and attitudes mentioned by the queen are pictured differently in Marghiloman's memoirs, which denotes, once more, the subjectivity of those who put down on paper wishes rather than realities.
