ANALYSIS OF ACOUSTO-OPTIC FILTER BEHAVIOR IN PORTABLE OPTICAL COMMUNICATION DEVICES
This paper explores the design principles of a portable optical communication system and its functional implementation as an acousto-optic bandpass filter. Based on the structural layout of the filter, an experimental setup was developed to validate the theoretical foundations through practical testing. During the experimental phase, it was observed that the interaction between elastic and optical waves within the photoelastic medium of the acousto-optic modulator leads to changes in the diffraction pattern. Specifically, the diffraction of the optical wave results in a frequency shift in the emerging light, influenced by the properties of the acoustic wave. These findings demonstrate the feasibility of utilizing optical heterodyning to isolate signals within portable optical communication systems. The conducted research confirms that the heterodyne-type acousto-optic processor exhibits a limited passband and selective operational characteristics, qualifying it as a frequency-selective system. Therefore, such a configuration is suitable for use as an acousto-optic bandpass filter within compact optical communication setups.
