ICN Performance Model Under Time Delay Consistency for General Cache Policies
With the expanding volume of content and the accelerated pace of information update in Information-Centric Network(ICN), there is a rising need for strong cache consistency. The ICN consistency mechanism ensures that the timeliness of the content received by users is synchronized with the server side, which is is particularly critical for applications with high realtime demands like financial trading platforms and video streaming services. However, existing literature on ICN consistency performance modeling often fails to fully consider the impact of network delays, which is an indispensable factor in practical network environments, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G mobile networks. This paper introduces an innovative ICN consistency performance model that incorporates network delays employing the Che approximation and Poisson processes. Massive simulation results demonstrate that our consistency performance model, which takes into account time delays, can more accurately fit network metrics such as hit rates and server loads, thereby providing superior performance and reliability in scenarios like IoT and 5G. This research not only enriches the theoretical foundation of ICN but also provides practical guidance for the optimization of real-world network environments.
