A neutrino flare potentially associated with X-ray emission from tidal disruption event ATLAS17jrp
Tidal disruption events (TDEs), where stars are torn apart by supermassive black holes, are potential high-energy neutrino sources via hadronic interactions. X-ray-bright TDEs provide dense photon fields conducive to neutrino production through photohadronic ($p\gamma$) processes. We conducted a time-dependent unbinned likelihood analysis using ten years (2008–2018) of IceCube muon-track data, focusing on ten X-ray-confirmed TDEs. A possible neutrino flare was found in spatial and temporal coincidence with ATLAS17jrp, peaking 19 days after the X-ray onset and lasting 56 days. The post-trial $p$-value of 0.01 suggests a low-significance but intriguing correlation, potentially from hadronic interactions. Despite the limited sample, the result underscores the importance of high-cadence X-ray monitoring and future neutrino observatories in probing the TDE–neutrino link.
