D2.2 Mid-term Report on Knowledge Hub Delivery and Good practices for Research Software Development

This deliverable provides a mid-term report on the EVERSE knowledge hub delivery. This knowledge hub, the Research Software Quality Kit (RSQKit), is designed to contain a collection of tools and guidelines on research software quality that align, adapt, and extend to the specific needs of various research communities. In the RSQKit, we integrate the outcomes from various EVERSE work packages. Using concise descriptions of research software quality related tasks, we connect good practices collected by WP2 with software quality tools collected by WP3 and the training materials collected by WP5. The information collected on RSQKit is then evaluated by WP4 in domain specific use cases in the EOSC Science clusters. Feedback from this evaluation is then used to improve and extend the materials on RSQKit accordingly. In this document, we provide a mid-term overview of the status of RSQKit. We briefly describe the process leading up to the current version of the RSQKit, and the type of content which is currently collected. We describe how content is contributed and curated, the role of the editorial board, and show how we use “research software stories” to illustrate the role of good practices in the EOSC Science clusters. We also explain the technical infrastructure needed to implement the RSQKit itself. Since the initial release of RSQKit, there have been three new releases that both add a significant amount of content and improve the software infrastructure and capabilities of the RSQKit itself. We report on a selection of those improvements here as well.
