Artificial intelligence in Primary Care: applications, benefits, and limitations

Artificial intelligence is emerging as a valuable tool in pediatric primary care, with potential applications in early diagnosis, chronic disease management, clinical decision support, health education, and administrative optimization. This article reviews current scientific literature to assess the impact of AI on improving care quality, personalizing interventions, and reducing clinical variability. Advances in image analysis, data processing, and virtual assistants are discussed. However, implementation faces significant challenges: limited pediatric-specific data, privacy concerns, lack of algorithm transparency, infrastructural constraints, and regulatory gaps. The need for professional training and equitable access strategies is emphasized. When used under clinical supervision, artificial intelligence may serve as a useful adjunct in pediatric practice, provided ethical, legal, and operational issues are addressed.
