Marketing in Motion: Strategies for Engaging Consumers in E-Commerce and Quick Commerce Platforms
The digital retail landscape is evolving rapidly as e-commerce matures and quick commerce (q-commerce) emerges to meet consumers’ demand for immediacy. This paper, “Marketing in Motion: Strategies for Engaging Consumers in E-Commerce and Quick Commerce Platforms,” synthesizes contemporary theory and applied evidence to examine how marketing strategies drive engagement, trust, and purchase behavior across these two related but distinct modalities. Drawing on a curated literature base and industry case examples, the study identifies ten core engagement strategies personalization, influencer/social commerce, live commerce, loyalty and gamification, real-time mobile promotions, omnichannel integration, user-generated content and community building, hyperlocal marketing, AI/AR/motion analysis, and trust via transparency and reviews and explores how each functions within the contexts of e-commerce and q-commerce. The analysis highlights that while e-commerce emphasizes long-term relationship building via personalization and loyalty, q-commerce prioritizes context-driven immediacy, hyperlocal logistics, and time-sensitive promotions; both require technology-enabled insights and trust mechanisms to reduce purchase friction and perceived risk. Practical cases (e.g., Amazon, Shein, Taobao Live, Blinkit/Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, Walmart, Dunzo, IKEA) illustrate how platforms translate strategies into measurable engagement outcomes. The paper also addresses key challenges data privacy, information overload, platform design that avoids consumer confusion, and operational constraints of ultra-fast delivery and offers managerial recommendations for balancing innovation with ethical data use and service reliability. By mapping strategy to consumer psychology and platform capabilities, this work contributes an applied framework for practitioners and researchers seeking to optimize engagement across varying temporal and logistical demands of digital commerce. Future research directions include empirical validation of strategy effectiveness across demographics and cross-country markets, and deeper study of motion analysis and physiological metrics as predictors of purchase intent.
