Streamlining Reservoir Model Property Updates with Advanced Multi-Point Statistics
The primary control on subsurface reservoir heterogeneities and fluid flow characteristics are the sedimentary facies architecture and petrophysical rock fabric distribution in the reservoir, which emphasize the need for constructing a representative 3D facies model that integrates local well information with realistic conceptual facies model results. In the main reservoir formation, the deposits range from fluvial, estuarine channels at the top, which precede a major and widespread marine transgression, to highly heterogeneous depositional environments characterized by a mixture of marine and continental deposits, representing a tidally influenced estuary with a coastline and coastal fluvial sand source, as a result of post-glacial transgression. In the initial model the modern analogue technique was employed as a calibration method for reconstructing the past geological parameters. This approach was used to pick the expected areas for placing the geo-bodies, determine their realistic spatial correlation and areal extent, and preserve the sand correlation from the braided river sources into the tidal estuary, estuarine channels, and sand bars.
