Enhancing Cardboard Box Recycling in E-commerce: An Innovative Approach for Amazon

The exponential growth of e-commerce has led to a significant increase in cardboard box waste, contributing substantially to environmental degradation and waste management challenges. As one of the world's largest e-commerce platforms, Amazon generates millions of cardboard boxes daily, many of which end up in landfills or are recycled inefficiently. This study proposes a novel solution to improve the recycling process of cardboard boxes used by Amazon. By introducing an opt-in feature for customers to participate in an eco-friendly initiative, Amazon can collect used cardboard boxes from customers' homes within 48 hours of delivery. In return, participants receive reward points redeemable on future purchases through the Amazon app. This approach aims to reduce cardboard waste, increase recycling rates, and provide cost savings for Amazon. Moreover, it enhances customer engagement and loyalty by empowering consumers to contribute to sustainable practices. The proposed solution has the potential to mitigate environmental impacts associated with cardboard waste, including deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, and water pollution. By adopting this approach, Amazon can reduce its ecological footprint, aligning with its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. This research investigates the feasibility and effectiveness of this innovative approach, providing insights for e-commerce companies seeking to adopt sustainable practices and minimize their environmental impact. Key objectives of this study include:1. Investigating the current state of cardboard box waste management in e-commerce, 2. Assessing the environmental impacts of cardboard waste 3. Evaluating the effectiveness of the proposed opt-in recycling program, 4. Analyzing the cost savings and benefits for Amazon, and 5. Identifying potential challenges and limitations of the proposed approach. This research aims to contribute to the development of sustainable e-commerce practices, providing a model for environmentally responsible cardboard box management that can be replicated by other companies in the industry.
