A 2.4 GHz/5.8 GHz Dual-Band Shared-Aperture Antenna for WiFi Applications

This paper presents a dual-band shared-aperture antenna operating at 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz for WiFi applications. The antenna consists of a 2×2 dipole array and a grid patch. The dipole array is embedded into the grid patch, and the two antennas radiate from the same aperture. The grid patch is differentially fed by two T-shaped feeding structures. To improve the isolation performance, a bandpass filter is introduced at the feeding port of the 5.8 GHz band. Numerical results show that the antenna achieves −10 dB impedance bandwidths of 21.67% and 42.93% at 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz, respectively. The peak gain in the two bands are 8.65 dBi and 10.27 dBi. The proposed antenna features wide band and compact size.
