On the use of Modern IoT and AI Technologies in the «Smart Forest» System

The article discusses the relevance and necessity of creating a Smart Forest system for monitoring and preserving forests, especially in regions such as the Altai Republic, where forest areas are extensive and some territories are difficult to access. The authors note that existing monitoring methods need to be automated to improve the efficiency of forecasting and preventing negative events such as forest fires and propose a concept of the Smart Forest system based on the use of modern IoT and AI technologies. The main components of the system are described in detail, including subsystems for collecting primary data, computer vision, a transport and monitoring subsystem, data transmission, and artificial intelligence and predictive analytics. The issues of power supply for autonomous modules of the system and organization of data transmission are discussed, and the capabilities of various modules for organizing data transmission are compared. Examples of program code for implementing various functions of the system are also provided, including data visualization on a map. In conclusion, it is emphasized that the implementation of the Smart Forest system will automate forest monitoring, improve the accuracy of fire hazard forecasting, protect ecosystems and prevent catastrophic phenomena.
