Wideband Azimuth-Stable Polarization Rotators With Arbitrary-Angle Rotation Using Pinwheel Configuration
Polarization manipulation via transmission-type polarization rotators (TPRs) is critical in wireless systems but faces azimuth sensitivity. Existing azimuth-stable polarization rotators (ASPRs) prioritize 90° rotation, ignoring other hybrid states (e.g., 45°), and exhibit narrow bandwidths. This letter presents a wideband ASPR design scheme for arbitrary-angle rotation. It incorporates enhanced magneto-electric (ME) dipole with antenna-to-antenna (ATA) architecture to achieve wideband azimuth-stable arbitrary-angle polarization rotation, while adopting the “pinwheel” configuration of radiation arms to maximize bandwidth. As representative examples, the proposed 45°-ASPR and its corresponding 90°-ASPR achieve stable polarization rotation of 45° and 90°, respectively, over 8.05–17.65 GHz (74.71% fractional bandwidth), maintaining a polarization conversion ratio (PCR) above 80% across all azimuth angles, thereby significantly outperforming previously reported narrowband ASPRs.
