Prism Adaptation Test To Predict Post-Operative Diplopia After Strabismus Surgery
This prospective study evaluated the usefulness of the prism adaptation test (PAT) as a pre-operative diagnostic tool in strabismus surgery. Twenty patients (ages 5–30) were tested at the Orthoptic Department, Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly, using prism cover testing at near and distance. The study assessed patients’ diplopia responses to predict the risk of post-operative diplopia and to identify potential for binocular fusion. Findings showed that congenital squint cases with alternating suppression typically experienced only transient diplopia, while late-onset squint patients had longer diplopia responses. Overall, PAT was found to be an effective method to predict post-operative diplopia risk and to prepare patients for their post-surgical sensory environment.
