Multi-Band Quad-Arm Cross Patch Antenna for Sub-Terahertz Applications
This paper presents the HFSS design and simulation of a novel quad-arm cross patch antenna for multiband sub-terahertz applications in future wireless communication and sensing. The antenna's patch structure features a unique design with a central plus sign shaped main patch and perpendicular extensions at each end. Fabricated on a Rogers RT Duroid 5880 substrate, the antenna operates across three bands: <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$484-500 \text{GHz}, 642-660 \text{GHz}$</tex> and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$869-885 \text{GHz}$</tex>. Simulated return losses reach a dip of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$+26.2 ~\text{dB},+31.7 ~\text{dB}$</tex> and +36 dB, with corresponding peak gains of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$7.4 \text{dBi}, 10.7 \text{dBi}$</tex>, and 9 dBi within each band respectively. The <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$642-660 \text{GHz}$</tex> band also achieves good circular polarization. This multi-band performance demonstrates potential for high-resolution imaging, short-range high-capacity communication, and advanced sensing.
