Shape Optimization-Based Design of Cooling Fins for Brushless Doubly-Fed Machine
Brushless Doubly-Fed Machine (BDFM) is widely used in the wind power industry due to its robust structure, reliable operation, and low maintenance costs. However, the operational lifespan of BDFM is highly dependent on effective heat dissipation to mitigate insulation material aging. This study focuses on optimizing the structural shape of the cooling fins in the BDFM using Bernstein polynomial boundaries and the Method of Moving Asymptotes (MMA) iterative optimization algorithm. After shape optimization, a Y-shaped cross-section cooling fin design was developed, reducing the maximum temperature of the rotor winding from 127.675℃ to 110.249℃, a decrease of 17.426℃ as a drop of 13.65%. This improvement enhances the thermal management of BDFM, thereby extending its operational lifespan.
