Towards Design of a Multi-Input DC-DC Converter for EV Charging Applications with Battery and PSO-based Solar-PV System
This manuscript presents a battery-connected solar-PV system-powered DC-DC converter for electric vehicle (EVs) applications. The battery incorporation with the solar-PV system can improve the reliability of the overall system. The proposed converter provides dual output voltages; therefore, this converter is well-suited for connection with multilevel inverters (MLI). These MLI compensate the harmonics to a great extent in EVs. The MPPT technique is established in this work to obtain peak power from the PV module particle swarm optimization (PSO). The PSO algorithm continuously adjusts the operating conditions of the PV array and ensures the maximum power, irrespective of its intermittent atmospheric conditions. To interface the PV module and battery system, DC-DC converters and MLI are essential. The proposed converter is simple to design and utilizes no. of semiconductor devices utilized. The performance of the proposed multi-input source DC-DC converter is validated through simulations conducted in MATLAB/Simulink software.
