Metamaterial-Inspired Split Ring Resonator Based Proximity Sensor
Near-field perturbation analysis of metamaterial-inspired split ring resonator (SRR) structures play a significant role in various sensor applications due to their high sensitivity. This paper presents a novel proximity sensor which is based on the near-field perturbation analysis of the SRR structure. The sensor's functionality is investigated by analyzing variations in the electromagnetic field and resonance frequency shifts in response to the controlled positional displacement of dielectric materials near the sensing probe, using the High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) software. A calibration curve method is employed to establish a correlation between the resonance frequency shift of the SRR and the position of the dielectric material, enabling its use as a proximity sensor. The simulation results are further validated through experimental measurements, where the resonance frequency shift is measured in response to controlled displacements of dielectric material positioned near the SRR sensor. This work contributes to the advancement of metamaterial-inspired sensing technologies, offering a novel approach based on near-field perturbation analysis.
