Periodistas de cine y de ética / Film and Ethics Journalists

This study examines how cinema constructs the ethical image of journalists by analysing over 100 films featuring journalists as prominent characters. It uses both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to classify journalistic behaviours into ethical categories, assessing whether cinematic portrayals align with the ethical standards established by institutions like UNESCO and the European Council. The analysis reveals that although stereotypes persist, the majority of filmic journalists exhibit moderately or highly ethical behaviour. Gender, age, and professional roles also influence these representations, with female journalists often portrayed as more ethically consistent. Through case studies, the article highlights the ethical dilemmas surrounding truth, manipulation, sensationalism, and media-business interests. Films like All the President's Men and The Insider serve as positive paradigms, while The Big Carnival illustrates professional degradation. This interdisciplinary research contributes to media ethics, journalism studies, and film analysis, advocating for responsible media representation in popular culture.
