Orbital myocysticercosis: A case series
Ocular dissemination of cysticercus cellulosae is a well known disease entity, but orbital cysticercosis (OCC) is a rare presentation. OCC has varied presentations, which may pose a diagnostic challenge to health professionals. We present four cases of OCC which presented with ptosis and orbital cellulitis, one of which had neurocysticercosis (case 4) in a tertiary care hospital in Kolkata. Our clinical diagnosis was confirmed on orbital imaging. All the cases were managed conservatively with albendazole and systemic steroids. Cysticercosis resolved with significant improvement of symptoms in all the cases, except one, where residual ptosis was present. Early diagnosis and timely management can prevent blindness and optimize visual outcomes.
