Design of Modular Transverse Flux Switching Machines Applied to Starter/Generator Systems for Multi-Electric Aircraft

A modular transverse flux switching machine for the starter/generator system of multi-electric aircraft is proposed. The topological structure of the machine is introduced, and the selection of stator and rotor materials for starter/generator applications is discussed. The electromagnetic characteristics and losses of different stator and rotor materials are compared. Then, the power-size equation of the machine is derived, and the reliability of the derivation results is verified through simulation. Considering the high operating temperature of aviation starter/generators, a preliminary demagnetization analysis under temperature influence is conducted for the machine, and the electromagnetic characteristics of the machine before and after demagnetization are compared. Based on the above research, the rationality of using this machine as an aviation starter/generator is preliminarily determined.
