Multiple-Strip Planar Antenna with Broad Beams in both E- and H-Planes
A multiple-strip planar antenna with broad beams in both E- and H-planes is presented in this paper. It is composed of a central driven strip and six surrounding parasitic strips. Four straight parasitic strips are used to broaden the H-plane half-power beamwidth (HPBW). Whereas two H-shaped strips are employed to broaden the E- plane HPBW. By adjusting the current magnitudes and phases on the parasitic strips, HPBW s in both principal cutting planes can be greater than 120° simultaneously. To verify the idea, an antenna operating at the 24-GHz ISM band (24-24.25 GHz) was designed and simulated. A simulated overlapping bandwidth of 1.5% (23.99-24.36 GHz) is obtained, over which the return loss is larger than 10 dB, and the E- and H-plane HPBWs are beyond 120°.
