Analysis of Related Issues Surrounding the Use of Self-Provided Medications Among Inpatients

The use of self-provided medications by inpatients is an essential part of clinical drug use. However, it entails certain risks and faces multiple challenges in practice. These include inadequacies in institutional management systems, safety concerns associated with their use, tensions between patient autonomy and medical paternalism, unclear delineation of medical safety and liability, and privacy risks coupled with challenges in the compliance of information sharing. To effectively mitigate clinical medication-related risks, standardize the use of self-provided medications, and promote the implementation of medical ethics, this paper draws on clinical case examples to propose several recommendations: improving institutional regulations on self-provided medication management, balancing respect for patient autonomy with the assurance of medical safety, establishing sound legal frameworks with clear accountability, optimizing privacy protection and information-sharing mechanisms.
