Current state of the Blackfly (Simuliidae) fauna of the Canary Islands, with new records

The discovery of a new locality of S. paraloutetense and the new finding of S. velutinum on Gran Canaria are of special faunistic importance. Bionomic information about the distribution and ecology of the other species in the Canarian archipelago are given. The composition of the recent blackfly fauna is compared with earlier data from the literature. Possible reasons for the changes are discussed.
