This article examines the evolution, characteristics, and future challenges of film criticism written in Basque within local press media. By analysing 154 film reviews, the study offers a diachronic exploration of the critical paradigms and textual structures shaping Basque-language cinema commentary from 1954 to 2016. The article dissects film reviews across analytical categories including screenplay, staging, narrative rhythm, interpretation, and cultural references. The article highlights the growing influence of cultural journalism, the tension between aesthetic depth and journalistic brevity, and the need for Basque film criticism to adapt to online platforms without losing its pedagogical and reflective essence.
