The method of desalination of nickel catalysts for hydrogenation of vegetable oils
The development of blackened nickel catalysts with a protective layer is crucial for the Russian fat and oil industry due to the lack of domestic production technology. While catalysts are currently imported from India and China, the absence of blackened varieties for harder salomas production remains a challenge. The paper highlights the advantages of sulfidated nickel catalysts for fats with steep melting curves, demonstrating higher selectivity compared to non-shaded forms. Various vegetable oils suitable for hydrogenation processes are examined, with cotton, peanut, palm, and sunflower oils being most preferred. A laboratory technique for sulfidation of nickel hydrogenation catalysts using hydrogen sulfide in a hydrogen stream during activation in a fluidized bed has been developed. The composition of the resulting catalyst samples has been analyzed, addressing the need for food-safe desulfurization methods distinct from those used in hydrotreating processes.
