Topological configuration and demonstration of communication and micro grid network architecture for wide-area precision agriculture based on renewable energy resources

To realize more efficient precision agriculture leveraging AI, robotics, and other advanced technologies, the development of high-speed communication networks and reliable power infrastructures is essential. This study proposes a novel infrastructure for smart agriculture that integrates a communication network utilizing both optical and wireless technologies with a power distribution network based on renewable energy sources. The communication network employs optical wireless communication systems and Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology to achieve flexible scalability and high reliability. On the other hand, the power network adopts a decentralized autonomous control system using direct current (DC), which is highly compatible with solar power generation and contributes to simplified voltage control. To evaluate the feasibility of the proposed system, we conducted simulation-based comparisons of network topologies to ensure effective area coverage. Furthermore, a field network was constructed, and its sustainable operation was confirmed, demonstrating the practicality of the proposed system.
