Risk constrained scheduling strategy for a smart EH including electric vehicles and community oriented programs

• Presenting a new community-oriented scheduling model for a SEH. The proposed community-oriented scheduling model integrates DRPs for both electrical and thermal energy. • Enable end-users to shift their energy consumption to off-peak hours, reducing operational costs and enhancing grid flexibility. • Investigating the impacts of PEVs and DRPs on the reduction of the SEH costs in different scenarios • Presenting a risk-oriented methodology for managing the SEH under different uncertainties Smart energy hubs (SEHs) enable coordinated scheduling of multi-carrier systems by integrating renewable sources, storage, and demand-side programs. This paper proposes a risk-constrained scheduling model for an SEH that includes solar, wind, combined heat and power (CHP), compressed air energy storage (CAES), electrical and thermal storage, boilers, electrical heat pumps (EHPs), and plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs). Unlike existing studies, the framework incorporates both electrical and thermal demand response programs (DRPs) in a community-oriented manner, enhancing flexibility and scalability. To address uncertainties in renewable generation and demand, the model employs conditional value-at-risk (CVaR), balancing cost minimization with risk management. The problem is formulated as a mixed-integer linear program (MILP) and solved using CPLEX. Electricity and gas prices are provided from regional day-ahead market reports. Case studies demonstrate that coordinated DRPs and PEV flexibility significantly reduce costs and improve reliability. The proposed approach achieves up to 20.5% cost reduction, lowering the expected operation cost from $14,604.12 to $11,620.15. Analysis of risk parameters further reveals operational trade-offs: more risk-averse strategies increase reliance on CHP and boilers for certainty, while flexible resources like PEVs and DRPs mitigate renewable intermittency. The results confirm that a community-oriented, risk-aware SEH enhances economic efficiency, robustness, and flexibility in integrated energy systems.

Abstract

The results confirm that a community-oriented, risk-aware SEH enhances economic efficiency, robustness, and flexibility in integrated energy systems.
