Continuum Renewal Theory: A Framework for Time as the Fundamental Refresh of Existence
The nature of time remains one of the most profound mysteries in physics. While relativity treats time as a dimension interwoven with space, and quantum mechanics frames time as an external parameter for state evolution, neither approach explains why time flows or how the present emerges from the future. We propose the Continuum Renewal Theory (CRT), a model in which the universe is composed of fundamental one-dimensional (1D) units, each directly linked to its own future counterpart. Reality advances through a universal refresh process, where all 1D units simultaneously update their states at an underlying rate, the existence refresh rate (E0), potentially on the order of the Planck time (10-43s). This framework defines time as the speed of existence itself: the continuous transformation of future potential states into present reality, archived instantly as past. CRT provides a unified mechanism for the arrow of time, quantum state collapse, and the invariance of light speed.
