An Analytical Performance Evaluation on Sui Move Object-Centric Models
The Sui Move language is an evolution of smart contract languages. It provides stronger security, scalability, reliability, and verifiability comparing to other existing smart contract languages like Ethereum Solidity. The Sui Move language introduces innovative object-centric models, which provide a strong and straightforward approach to use objects throughout the development stack. In 2024, Sui became one of the fastest-growing Layer 1 blockchains. As Sui rapidly gains popularity, evaluating its object models becomes a crucial research field. In this paper, we present a study on the gas consumptions of Sui object models. We will describe the Sui gas pricing mechanism. We will study the Sui Move object ownership models, including transferred, shared and frozen objects. We will study the fees associated with the operations on Sui object models. We will also provide sample smart contract code to implement these models. This research is relevant for Sui smart contract designers and Sui framework developers.
