In the context of the global climate crisis and increasing international pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the development of green energy has become a key priority in the national policy of many countries, including Azerbaijan. This paper explores the current state of renewable energy sources in the country, the regulatory framework and presidential decrees related to green energy, as well as the roles of key institutional actors such as the Ministry of Energy, SOCAR, the Ministry of Ecology, and the State Agency for Renewable Energy (AREA). Particular attention is paid to ongoing projects, international cooperation, and the challenges hindering the pace of energy transition. Based on the analysis, a set of measures is proposed to accelerate the integration of renewables into Azerbaijan’s energy balance and ensure a sustainable low-carbon development trajectory in the long term
