The expansion of residential areas significanly impact to planning of urban infrastructure and public utilities, especially challenge related to water supply pipe system. Leakage of water pipe is usually related to substandard installation or non-uniform support in confined spaces. Conducting field studies to examine pipe behavior are both costly and challenging due to difficulties in controlling testing conditions and variables. Therefore, this research aims to develop a buried PVC water supply pipe model with rock support using the CTEd-2 geotechnical centrifuge to systematically investigate the behavior of PVC pipes under controlled conditions, by following these steps: 1) developing testing equipments for buried water supply PVC pipe centrifuge model 2)preparation of artificial clay for simulating Soft Bangkok Clay and 3) studying flexural behaviors of the model with rock support at midpoint of the buried pipe on the CTEd-2 centrifuge machine at 20 times of normal gravity (1:20 scale). Testing is categorized into three testing cases as follows: 1) effects of two wheel-load positions on sand fill surface for different buried depths 2) effects of different trench widths and 3) effects of one and two wheel-load positions without and with rock support. The test results and the behaviors of the PVC water supply pipe model revealed that the burial depth significantly affects the behavior of the pipe model. The shallowest burial depth results in the greatest flexural deformation of the pipe model, which decreases as the burial depth increases. Meanwhile, the trench width also affects the pipe behavior. Specifically, narrower trenches show less influence from wheel load on the pipe than wider trenches. This may be due to the sand arching phenomenon in narrow trenches, which helps to resist the wheel-load pressure and prevents sand movement, thereby reducing the pressure transmitted to the pipe. Finally, the position of the wheel-load, whether one or two positions, causes different flexural behaviors in the pipe. However, the flexural behaveior at the pipe ends does not differ significantly.
