$\text{HEM}_{12 \delta}$ Mode Based Cylindrical DRA: Engineering with the Dielectric and Metallic Objects for Improved Radiation Properties
This study examines methods to achieve suppression of cross-polarized (XP) radiation over both orthogonal (H-) and diagonal (D-) planes of a Non-resonant Microstrip Patch (NMP)-fed cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) operating in the <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\text{HEM}_{12 \delta}$</tex> mode. Innovative ground plane engineering and physical perturbation within the DRA are used to achieve up to 18 dB XP suppression over H-plane and 12 dB over D-plane for a C-band DRA, without affecting the primary gain and 3dB beamwidth of the antenna.
