A Dual Polarized Luneburg Lens Antenna for mmW Multibeam Communication System

A planar dual polarized Luneburg lens antenna for millimeter wave multibeam scanning is designed using a unit that is insensitive to polarization and incidence angle. Preliminary simulation results show that the antenna gain is higher than 16 dBi in the whole Ka-band, the antenna gain deviation is less than 0.3 dBi for different incidence angles, and the gain discrepancy between vertical and horizontal polarization is stable within 1 dBi, which makes this antenna an excellent choice for millimeter wave communication systems.

Abstract

A planar dual polarized Luneburg lens antenna for millimeter wave multibeam scanning is designed using a unit that is insensitive to polarization and incidence angle. Preliminary simulation results show that the antenna gain is higher than 16 dBi in the whole Ka-band, the antenna gain deviation is less than 0.3 dBi for different incidence angles, and the gain discrepancy between vertical and horizontal polarization is stable within 1 dBi, which makes this antenna an excellent choice for millimeter wave communication systems.
