Wideband Low-Profile Metasurface Antenna with Gain Enhancement

This paper proposes a wideband low-profile metasurface antenna with gain enhancement using a soft-surface structure. The antenna uses square patch cells as the radiators, fed by a microstrip line through a rectangular slot. To suppress outward surface waves and reduce edge diffraction on the dielectric substrate, a soft-surface structure is employed to surround the patch cells. Simulation results show that the proposed antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth of 29.5% (4.19-5.64 GHz) and a peak gain of 12.2 dBi, indicating a gain improvement of up to 2.48 dB at 5.64 GHz compared to the original metasurface antenna.
