Application of UWB Technology for Communication with UAVs

The article discusses the application of a lowpower, high-speed, short-range radio communication system based on ultra-wideband short pulses to build a transmission system between an unmanned aerial vehicle and an operator. This radio communication system is a solution that allows for reliable and fast data transmission in conditions of limited range, which is especially important for controlling unmanned aerial vehicles in closed spaces and under the influence of interference from external radio devices. A prototype of such a system is described in detail. The description includes technical characteristics of the system components and their interaction. A wireless ultra-wideband half-duplex transceiver designed for high-precision positioning and communication over short distances is used to organize the unmanned aerial vehicle control system. This transceiver provides the ability to exchange data in real time, which is critical for the successful completion of the drone's mission. The Time-of-Flight method is used to measure the range of the experimental system, allowing the distance to target objects to be accurately determined. This method is based on measuring the time required for a radio wave to travel from the transmitter to the receiver and back. The measurement results are presented.
