BUSINESS GENERIC STRATEGIES AS RELATED TO GOVERNANCE IN AFRICA
This research investigates the interplay between business generic strategies and governance performance across a representative sample of African economies between 2015 and 2023. Drawing on the World Bank’s Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI) as the primary evaluative framework, the study examines ten countries strategically selected to reflect the continent’s regional diversity, encompassing West, East, Central, North, and Southern Africa. These countries include South Africa, Egypt, Kenya, Ethiopia, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Morocco, and two additional states chosen for comparative depth. The analysis focuses on six key governance dimensions—Government Effectiveness, Regulatory Quality, Rule of Law, Control of Corruption, Voice and Accountability, and Political Stability—each of which plays a critical role in shaping the strategic decision-making landscape for firms. The study applies both descriptive and comparative methods, incorporating regional averages, country-specific profiles, and trend analyses over the eight-year period. By integrating governance performance data with documented cases of firm-level strategy adoption, the research identifies clear patterns in the relationship between institutional quality and the viability of specific strategic approaches.
