Probe-Fed Circularly Polarized Square Patch Antenna for Wireless Applications
The present paper highlights the design and performance analysis of circularly polarized microstrip patch antenna (CPMSA) at 5.1 GHz for wireless and satellite applications using HFSS simulator. Circular polarization has been achieved using the corner truncation method along the diagonals of square patch. The main objective of the proposed structure is to reduce the overall cost using air as a substrate. CPMSA has the simulated and measured return loss bandwidth of 386 MHz (4.98–5.37 GHz, 7.46%) and of 430 MHz (4.95–5.38 GHz, 8.24%) for optimized dimension of patch respectively. The simulated axial ratio bandwidth is of 67 MHz (5.12–5.19 GHz, 1.5 %) achieved for optimized dimensions of corner truncation. The proposed CPMSA emits a right hand circularly polarized (RHCP) wave. The cross polar level between LHCP and RHCP is more than <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{1 5} \mathbf{~ d B}$</tex>. Also, the proposed CPMSA has simulated and measured peak gain of 7.24 dB and 5.6 dB respectively, which confirms the decent impedance matching over the desired band of operation. This achieved values of impedance bandwidth, CP bandwidth, gain and radiation characteristics are good enough for C -band wireless application.
