Fast Ion Extraction Control System for ESIS
The pulsed electron-string ion source KRION-6T is the primary device for producing highly charged heavy ions in the injection complex of Nuclotron-based Ion Collider Facility at the Laboratory of High Energy Physics of Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. During the fourth phase of commissioning the Nuclotron-based Ion Collider Facility complex in 2022–2023, <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">${}^{124}\mathbf{Xe}^{28+}$</tex> ions <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(\mathbf{Z}/\mathbf{A}=1/4.4)$</tex> obtained from the KRION-6T source were accelerated to an energy of 3.9 GeV/nucleon. The ion extraction system, previously developed and used in this acceleration session, set a minimum ion extraction time from the ion trap of the KRION-6T source at <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\tau \geq 12$</tex> us. However, to ensure more efficient injection of the ion beam into the Booster, the ion extraction time from the source needed to be reduced to <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\boldsymbol{\tau}\boldsymbol{\sim} 4$</tex> us (the design injection time of the beam). The presented work describes a new electronic control system for the ion trap, enabling the fast extraction of ions from the KRION-6T source, achieving an extraction time for <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">${}^{124}\mathbf{Xe}^{28+}$</tex> ions of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\boldsymbol{\tau}\boldsymbol{\sim} 4$</tex> μs,
