Monitoring System for Lateral Soil Movements Using MEMS Accelerometers
Landslide events on slopes or hilly regions can cause severe incidents affecting populations living near these areas. In this context, real-time monitoring of such events is critically important to minimize the impact of landslides on the population. Thus, online monitoring of regions where these risks may cause material damage and threaten lives enables the implementation of an early warning system to safeguard lives. This work reports the results of a prototype inclinometer designed using MEMS accelerometer devices. The proposed system will be used for remote and continuous monitoring of lateral soil movements, with direct communication to environmental control agencies, thereby assisting competent authorities in making more assertive decisions.
