A Multi-Cell Network Energy Efficiency Optimization Scheme Based on MEC

As a new distributed computing approach, mobile edge computing (MEC) can extend cloud-based services to the network edge, which will achieve lower network latency and higher network throughput. In this paper, a multi-cell network scenario with MEC is considered, where channel allocation, power control and offloading strategy are jointly optimized. To facilitate the energy-efficient optimization, a mixed integer nonlinear programming problem is formulated. We use Dinkelbach’s method to transform the fractional problem into a subtractive one, and then a convex approximation to transform the non-convex problem into a solvable optimization problem. Finally this problem was solved by alternating optimization, which is to optimize the four optimization variables in turn. Simulation results show that the proposed resource allocation strategy is able to improve the energy efficiency by 15% in most cases compared to the genetic algorithm.
