A SELFLESS PERSON WHO DEDICATED HIS LIFE TO SCIENCE
The creation, growth, and development of Uzbek dialectology as a linguistic science is associated with the names of Russian-Turkologist scholars such as Professor E.D. Polivanov, Academician K.K. Yudakhin, Professor A.K. Borovkov, Professor V.V. Reshetov, and the first Uzbek linguist, Gozi Olim Yunusov, among others. Professor E.D. Polivanov wrote valuable works on Samarkand, Tashkent, Khorezm, Karshi, Turkestan, and a number of other Uzbek dialects between 1920 and 1937 in the field of studying Uzbek dialects. Academician K.K. Yudakhin of the Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences, who contributed to the study of Uzbek dialects, studied the characteristics of the Uzbek, Korabuloq, and Vodil village dialects, which preserved old Turkic length and ancient morphological forms, as early as 1925. The author paid special attention to the ethno-genetic issue between the Uzbek-Uyghur and Kyrgyz-Uzbek and Tajik languages, which is of great importance in studying the genesis of Uzbek dialects. The scientific works of Professor A.K. Borovkov, a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, on the Uzbek dialect are of great importance in terms of their content and weight. He created scientific works that shed light on the issues of Uzbek-Tajik language relations. In particular, his questionnaire consisting of 65 questions reflecting the phonetic-lexical-grammatical features of dialects for creating an atlas of folk dialects, "Questions and Answers on the Study of Uzbek Dialects" - 1944, is still an important manual for young specialists today.
