How it is Made: Understanding LED Types and Their Unique Production Methods - Part II
Hi, everyone. I am back with part two of my article about LED types and how they are made. SMD stands for Surface-Mount Device. SMD LEDs use a rectangular shape and sit directly on the surface of a printed circuit board (PCB). This design does not use wire leads like traditional LEDs. Instead, the SMD attaches to the PCB using small metal contacts. The internal parts include the LED chip, a phosphor layer, a lens, bond wires, and a heat sink. These parts are sealed in epoxy or silicone resin for protection.
